The New York Times described Barney’s comedic timing as “surgically precise.” The Orange County Register raved that Barney “steals every scene he’s in.” He accompanied Woody Allen to promote the film and to open the 55th Cannes Film Festival.

Since then, Barney starred in numerous films, including Stay Until Tomorrow, Wasabi Tuna, Brooklyn Heist, and appeared opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III.

Prior to working in film, Barney acted in New York theaters. A classically-trained actor, he worked Off-Broadway in such classics as Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Antigone.

In addition to acting, Barney directs and produces award-winning films. His films have collectively screened in over 80 film festivals worldwide. Most recently, his film To Comfort You starring Golden Globe Winner Susan Blakely and Pauley Perrette of “NCIS” won Best Drama and Best Film at the 2010 Beverly Hills Shorts Festival.

Barney directed Steps for Banana Republic and Vanity Fair as part of his Writer/Director Fellowship at Film Independent (FIND). Steps won international awards from Poland’s KAN Film Festival, Ukraine’s International Rights Film Festival, UK’s Black Film Festival and Golden Knights Malta International Film Festival. Visitors can catch Steps in rooms of W Hotels worldwide.

MTV Networks acquired Barney’s film The Red Dress for its 2009-2010 Logo programming. Prior to that, Barney directed Mrs. C, a political parody starring Niecy Nash, to help the Obama Campaign during the 2008 Presidential Primary. Barney’s first screenplay Dien Dien’s Playground advanced to the final stage of the Sundance Screenwriters Lab.

Barney is currently setting up A Doorknob Away, a transcontinental, magical, coming-of-age story for production.

In addition to acting and filmmaking, Barney actively volunteers for Project Angel Food. Barney received the 2009 Marianne Williamson Humanitarian Award for his “tenacious and dedicated global vision in the fight against HIV/AIDS, cancer, or other life-threatening illness.”

A graduate of Stanford University and a food/wine enthusiast, Barney is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese and resides in Los Angeles. Barney delivers every Friday for Project Angel Food.
